Hand-painted shaker doors, aged brass cup handles and a quartz worktop, built to measure for a narrow Victorian galley.
The room is 2.1 metres wide and nothing about it is square, which rules out flat-pack. Every carcass was cut in our workshop to the measurements we took on site, so the run finishes tight to both walls with no filler panels holding it together.
The shaker doors are solid tulipwood, sprayed in a soft sage and hand-finished. Aged brass cup handles and a matching bridge tap keep the metalwork consistent from one end of the run to the other.
Wall units would have closed the room in, so we used one shallow shelf and put the volume underneath: full-extension pan drawers, a pull-out larder beside the oven, and a plinth drawer for trays and baking sheets.
A 20mm quartz in a warm white, with a shallow upstand instead of tiles so there is one less grout line to clean in a room this narrow.
Every cupboard is exactly where I reach for it. It does not feel like a small kitchen any more.
Every project on this page was measured, made and installed by the same team.
